The solar panels were such a nice feature and allowed us to visit some places we otherwise would have missed. Peter was friendly and willing to help anytime. Colorado’s Best RV Resorts

Garden of the Gods RV Park Resort, Colorado Springs

Visitors love this campground for its spotless bathrooms, friendly staff, and location! It’s a mile from the gates to the striking Garden of the Gods park which is also the starting point to climb or drive up to Pikes Peak. Within close range of Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the charming village of Manitou Springs, and downtown Colorado Springs, this is the perfect place to be right in the middle of all the action while still having amazing mountain views. The spaces are small, but you’ll be too busy at the arcade or dog park or hiking to notice.

Tiger Run Resort, Breckenridge

With beautiful vistas of the Tenmile Mountains, Tiger Run is truly a resort experience. A clubhouse with a pool is a hit with the kids, and the indoor hot tubs make for a relaxing retreat even in the snowiest part of winter. It’s close to skiing, biking, golfing, hiking, and more. Artificial grass and a large dog area make it inviting for fur babies year-round.

Winding River Resort, Grand Lake

Winding River lies just on the outskirts of the beautiful town of Grand Lake, entryway to the western half of Rocky Mountain National Park. You’ll see deer, elk, and maybe even a moose or a bear! The resort is a favorite for visitors because of its friendly staff and opportunity for adventure. The campground offers ATV rentals and guided horseback trips for guests. Kids will love the weekend ice cream socials and forest playground.

Jellystone Park, Estes Park

Families with children cannot find a better camping experience than Jellystone Park. With tons of activities geared towards kids, families can partake in mini golf, laser tag, an arcade, guided crafts, meet and greets with the Yogi Bear, and more! Parents love the amazingly helpful stuff (help park your RV? – Sure!) and the proximity to the east end of Rocky Mountain National Park and the cutesy downtown of Estes Park.

Ami’s Acres Campground, Glenwood Springs

Literally on the slope of a gorgeous mountain, Ami’s Acres is the best spot to stay in Glenwood Springs. The short trip from here to downtown where visitors can soak in hot springs, rent a mountain bike, go caving, or zip line down a mountain makes the limited activities at the campground no problem. Visitors can’t say enough good things about the kind staff and excellent service. Free firewood? Yes, please!

Colorado’s Best State Parks

Lake Pueblo State Park

Water is fairly scarce in Colorado, so this gem of a boating, fishing, swimming opportunity is much appreciated by locals and travelers alike for its 60 miles of coastline. With two great marinas and interesting rock formations and distant snow-capped peaks to check out while cruising around, you’ll love this high desert oasis.

Rifle Gap State Park

On a summer day at Rifle Gap, you might see windsurfers on turquoise waters whizzing past tranquil trout fisherman, all while surrounded by towering verdant peaks. This high alpine lake is a peaceful getaway for boaters, picnickers, and even ice fishermen in the winter!

Golden Gate Canyon State Park

Many Denverites’ favorite weekend getaway, this 12,000-acre park is home to excellent hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, snowshoeing and more! It’s especially beautiful in the fall when the famous aspen trees turn their golden hue.

Ridgway State Park

If you’ve ever wanted to paddleboard while looking out on Alps-like mountains, this is your best bet (outside of Europe!). At Ridgway, fly fishermen find a dream come true, hikers encounter jaw-dropping views, and kids will love the beautiful swim beach.

Eleven Mile State Park

World-class trout fishing, amazing birding, and windsurfing are just a few of the incredible activities at your fingertips while you visit Eleven Mile. Just down the canyon is also home to fascinating rock formations that draw rock climbers from far and wide.

Colorado’s Best Attractions

Pikes Peak

Perhaps Colorado’s most famous “14er” – a mountain over 14,000 feet high, of which Colorado has 53, Pikes Peak is accessible by car, a steep 12-mile hike, or an incline railway. From downtown Colorado Springs at its base, visitors will ascend over 6,000 feet to a dizzying view of miles of surrounding mountain ranges. There are a small gift shop and donut shop at the top, but be careful about lingering – this elevation makes some people feel sick and the only cure is descending to lower ground.

Rocky Mountain National Park

Visiting RMNP allows visitors stunning views, amazing hiking, and up-close encounters with wildlife. Huge herds of deer and elk are common, adorable chipmunks will warm your heart, gorgeous Steller Jays swoop from trees, and observant folks might even see a moose or a bear. Outside of the park sits the adorable and scenic town of Estes Park where everyone from professional rock climbers to families with children to couples on romantic getaways will find something perfect to do for their trip.

Great Sand Dunes National Park

The tallest sand dunes in North America, the dunes of this little-known national park, rise up to 750 feet above the ground with snowy peaks in the background. To have the most fun, visitors absolutely must rent a sand sled and soar hundreds of feet down ridiculously picturesque hills, followed by a splash in the seasonal stream that rises from the sand. This is a perfect place for children and for intrepid adults. The park offers free off-road wheelchairs rentals so all you need to explore this otherworldly playland is an adventurous spirit. Keep in mind that mid-summer is generally too hot for comfort – to be safe, plan for any of the other seasons.

Mesa Verde National Park

A phenomenal historical treasure, Mesa Verde resides in the far southwest corner of Colorado in the dry and scenic Four Corners area. This park houses the ancient cliff dwellings of Ancestral Puebloan Native Americans. Pondering how this group lived in such harsh conditions and even getting to descend into a ceremonial pit, or kiva, makes for a wonder-filled adventure.

Glenwood Hot Springs Pool

The town of Glenwood Springs is named after the world’s largest mineral hot springs pool. This massive pool set in a bowl surrounded by verdant mountains has relaxing soaking areas, lap lanes, a slide area, and more – all supplied by natural and soothing hot water. It’s a surreal experience to be in an outdoor pool in the snowy middle of winter and be as cozy and warm as can be. The town of Glenwood Springs is bursting with other amazing outdoor activities as well – hike or snowshoe the gorgeous Hanging Lake Trail, rent bikes and ride through the glorious Glenwood Canyon, or go to Glenwood Canyon Adventure Park where there is an adventure activity for every type of visitor.

Lazy Days RV of Denver

Located conveniently in the Denver area and close to the airport.

Colorado’s Best Festivals

Crested Butte Wildflower Festival

Taking place in the out-of-the-way but definitely-worth-it mountain hamlet of Crested Butte, this festival celebrates the town’s wildflowers which sprawl across glorious mountain meadows. Photos of these scenes are so lovely it’s hard to believe that they’re real and not just an artist’s depiction of paradise. Over 200 flower-related festival activities in mid-July include culinary and medicinal classes, guided hikes, and art lessons. While not attending festival activities, visitors should take some time to rent bikes and ride on one of the many world-class trails or wade into refreshing mountain streams to angle for trout or salmon.

Aspen Filmfest

Taking place in late September, just as Aspen’s eponymous trees are dramatically turning to gold, Aspen Filmfest holds a week’s worth of cinematographic activities such as industry guest visits, panel discussions, debut film showings, and classes. An elegant way to enjoy the fall in one of Colorado’s most luxurious mountain towns.

Monte Vista Crane Festival

This festival is all kinds of small-town fun and breathtaking natural wonder. Tens of thousands of sandhill cranes – stunning birds with a bright red face and standing four feet high – stop in southern Colorado for about a month each year to feed in barley field before continuing their migration south. With numerous bird-themed activities available per day, visitors can watch the sky fill with cranes at dawn or dusk – a truly magical sight, board a borrowed school bus to visit nearby wetlands with Fish and Wildlife Service rangers, or attend a conservation-themed work of theater.

Steamboat Hot Air Ballon Rodeo

Leave it to Steamboat Springs, the US’s biggest producer of Olympic skiers to take hot air ballooning and turn it extreme. This festival has all the usual markers of a great ballooning festival – gorgeous nearby scenery, an evening “balloon glow” at dusk, and a wide variety of cheery-hued globes. However, the twist in Steamboat is that the balloons have a “rodeo” and perform tricky feats such as dipping into a lake. Before or after the festival, be sure to soak in one of the handfuls of hot springs in town. Strawberry Hot Springs ranks among many springs-enthusiasts as one of the best in the country.

Telluride Bluegrass Festival

This festival is no rinky-dink gathering of amateur musicians. Boasting almost 50 years and playing host to literally all the biggest names in the genre (and outside the genre!), it is instead one of the nation’s most respected music festivals. Imagine watching Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, the Dixie Chicks, Mumford & Sons, or even Steve Martin while watching the sunset over the towering Sangre de Cristo Mountains – it’s an experience you’re not likely to forget. This festival attracts attendees from across the country and, for many, is a family tradition going back several generations.
